Our story

Established in 2066 BS to keep science education local

Kamala Science Campus (कमला साइन्स क्याम्पस) was established in 2066 BS — 2009 AD — in Dhungrebas, Kamalamai, Sindhuli, Bagmati Province, Nepal. It was set up as a community-based campus rather than a private institution, developed with the support of Kamalamai Municipality and local stakeholders as a science education centre for the district.

Before it opened, students from Sindhuli who wanted a science degree generally had to move to a larger town or to Kathmandu. The campus was founded to close that gap: to make bachelor-level science available within the district, at a cost a community campus can sustain.

Today the campus runs the four-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) General program under Tribhuvan University, full-time and taught in English, with 50 seats per intake.

What we work towards

Access. Keep a quality science degree available to students in Sindhuli and the surrounding area.
Equity. Extend scholarship support so that economic background does not decide who can study science.
Practical learning. Support coursework with laboratory, library and computer facilities.
Community accountability. Run the campus as a community institution, answerable to the people it serves.

Mr. Pokharel chairs the Campus Management Committee, which oversees the direction and resources of the campus and its accountability to the community that founded it.

Message from the Chairman

Dear students, parents and well-wishers,

Kamala Science Campus grew out of a simple conviction: that a young person from Sindhuli should not have to leave home to study science. In 2066 BS, with the support of Kamalamai Municipality and local stakeholders, that conviction became a campus — and every student who walks through our gate carries it forward.

To our students: science rewards patience and honest effort far more than talent alone. Ask questions, spend your hours in the laboratory, read beyond the syllabus, and help the classmate beside you. The discipline you build here will serve you whether you go on to research, teaching, public service or enterprise.

To parents and the wider community: this campus belongs to you. The Management Committee is committed to keeping quality science education within reach of every capable student, whatever their family’s means, and to running the campus openly and responsibly.

I thank our teachers, staff and supporters for their dedication, and I welcome every new student to a campus that is proud to be Sindhuli’s own.

Mr. Bharat Malla

Campus Chief

Mr. Malla holds a master’s degree in mathematics and teaches mathematics on the B.Sc. program. As Campus Chief he leads the academic and administrative work of the campus — teaching, examinations, staff and the running of the program — and its coordination with Tribhuvan University.

Message from the Campus Chief

Welcome to Kamala Science Campus.

Our four-year B.Sc. General program follows the Tribhuvan University curriculum, and we take seriously the responsibility that comes with it: regular classes, careful laboratory work, fair internal assessment, and teachers who know their students by name.

A science degree is not a collection of facts to memorise before an examination. It is a way of thinking — observing carefully, measuring honestly, testing ideas, and changing your mind when the evidence demands it. I encourage every student to attend regularly, to treat each practical as a chance to learn how knowledge is actually made, and to come to your teachers whenever you are stuck. Our doors are open.

Much of what is good about this campus comes from its size. You will not be lost in a crowd here; you will be known, supported, and expected to do your best. Use the library, the laboratories and the student portal fully, keep an eye on the official TU notices, and make the most of your four years.

I wish every student success, and I look forward to seeing you grow into scientists, teachers and citizens Sindhuli can be proud of.

The teachers behind the B.Sc. program

Teaching on the B.Sc. General program is led by the Campus Chief and shared between full-time and part-time teachers.

Mr. Malla holds a master’s degree in mathematics and teaches mathematics on the B.Sc. General program. As Campus Chief he also leads the academic and administrative work of the campus — teaching, examinations, staff and the running of the program. His message to students is above.

Faculty and staff

Mr. Manoj Devkota

Asst. Professor

A graduate of this campus (B.Sc. Physics, 2015), Mr. Devkota holds an M.Sc. by Research from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematics Education from Kathmandu University. His photoelectrochemistry research is published in the Journal of Solid State Electrochemistry. He teaches physics full-time and runs the campus’s IT.

Mr. Tej Bikram Thapa

Asst. Professor

A former Campus Chief, Mr. Thapa holds a master’s degree in physics and teaches physics part-time on the four-year B.Sc. General program, following the Tribhuvan University (IOST) curriculum.

Mr. Shyam Lal Mahato

Asst. Professor

Mr. Mahato holds an M.Sc. degree and teaches physics part-time on the campus’s B.Sc. General program.

Mr. Chandeshwar Yadav

Asst. Professor

Mr. Yadav holds a master’s degree in chemistry and teaches chemistry part-time on the campus’s B.Sc. General program.

Mr. Jha teaches mathematics on the campus’s B.Sc. General program.

Mr. Santosh Sapkota

Account Head

As Account Head, Mr. Sapkota is responsible for the campus’s accounts.

Affiliation & recognition

Where our programs are registered

The campus runs its degree program under Tribhuvan University, and is recognised by the national body that oversees higher education in Nepal.

Tribhuvan University

The campus is affiliated with Tribhuvan University for bachelor-level study. The B.Sc. General program follows the TU Institute of Science and Technology (IOST) curriculum, and examinations and certification are issued by the university.

University Grants Commission

The campus is recognised by the University Grants Commission of Nepal, the body that oversees and supports higher education institutions in the country.

Academic and student support on campus

The campus maintains the basic academic and student-support facilities that regular science study requires.

Science laboratories

Laboratories for practical work in the physical and biological sciences, used throughout the B.Sc. coursework.

Computer lab

A computer laboratory with network access for coursework, computational subjects and reference work.

Library

A library holding textbooks and reference material for the curricula taught at the campus.

Classrooms & multimedia

Regular classrooms with multimedia support for teaching and presentations.

Conference hall

A hall for seminars, orientation programs, guest lectures and campus events.

Sports & counselling

Sports facilities for students, and counselling support for academic and personal guidance.
